3 Year Old Morning Class
This class is designed to introduce children to the routines of school.
Through play, the program also encourages the children to become active in their own learning and developmental journey. They will learn how to appropriately engage with their peers, the people and world around them, ask questions and seek out answers, and start the process of learning problem solving skills.
There are 18 spots in the class. Children need to be 3 years old by December 31st. Children must be toilet trained.
4 Year Old Morning Class
This class is designed to build on foundations laid in the 3 year old program. Having completed the 3 year old program is not a requirement to register.
This class explores topics on a deeper level with short-term and long-term projects. The children are provoked through our centers to ask more complex questions and seek out further knowledge and answers. They will continue on their journey to learn more about their world, how to work through conflict, failure, and problem solve. Of course, they will do this while playing and having fun!
There are 20 spots in the class. Children need to be 4 years old by December 31st. Children must be toilet trained.
3/4 Year Old Blended Afternoon Class
This class is designed to accommodate the needs of both age groups.
This class is unique, as it is designed to encourage a great learning environment where children can learn from their peers of various ages and offer great leadership opportunities for the children. As with our other classes, children are encouraged to be participants in their own learning and development.
Through our centers and projects (short-term and long-term) children are provoked to ask questions and seek out knowledge and answers. They will learn about their world, how to work through conflict, failure, and problem solve. Of course, they will do this while playing and having fun!
There are 7 spots for 3 year old children (must be 3 years old by September) and 13 spots for 4 year old children (Children need to be 4 years old by December 31st). Students in the class attend 3 afternoons a week. Children must be toilet trained.
4-6 Year Old Outdoor Nature Program
**We will not be running an outdoor program for the 2021-2022 school year. Please stay tuned for further updates.
This is a special Outdoor Nature Program that is almost entirely outside for the class duration. This program will inspire the children to explore, investigate and protect nature by learning through play. We will spend a large majority of the time outdoors in our outdoor classroom as well as taking many nature walks to the Crescent Heights green space. There, we will have meetings, discussions, engaging in both active games and art activities and utilize natural materials for free play.
The children will also have the opportunity to journal their experiences of each day in a notebook.
As we are based in Calgary, that means we can’t be outside 100% of the time due to frigid temperatures. When it is too cold or unsafe, we still have access to our indoor space where we work on projects and play.
Some of our focused topics may include: the changing seasons, animal/insect behaviours and adaptations, environmental awareness and respect for all natural things
For the most part we use December 31st as the day to determine your child’s age for class placement purposes. For example, if your child is 4 or 5 on Dec 31st, they should be in the 4 year old program or the 3/4 program. The notable exception is for 3 year olds entering the 3/4 program. Because these children will be combined in a class with 4 year olds, we require these students to be 3 years old on September 1st instead of December 31st. In summary:
- For the 4 year old program the student must turn 4 years old before Dec. 31st
- For the 3 year old morning class the student must turn 3 years old by Dec. 31st
- For the 3/4 year old afternoon class we accept a maximum of eight 3 year olds, all of whom must turn 3 years old by Sept 1. The remaining students must be 4 years old by Dec. 31
- For the outdoor program the student must turn 4 on or before September 1st. Children in kindergarten are welcome!
